What is the best gingerbread house making kit?
Skip the kit and use graham crackers! You’ll still have to buy candy and make the icing, but your house can be any size you want it to be. When I was little, my mom baked the individual pieces of each gingerbread house, and we assembled them. It was great, but if a piece was cut slightly wrong before baking, the house wouldn’t fit together. I bought a few house kits, but was also disappointed by the size. However, in the past couple years I’ve seen gingerbread houses–magnificient houses–made out of graham crackers. You can make them smaller by breaking them in half or cutting carefully with a sharp-pointed knife. You can make “buildings” more than four feet tall. (I’ve actually seen this.) I saw a picture of a gingerbread “yurt” that someone else made, and I’ve seen gingerbread “office cubicles”…all made out of graham crackers.
