What is the “best” hike?
Most locals agree that West Fork in Oak Creek Canyon is wonderful hike. It takes you through the canyon and near the creek the entire way. In fact, you will cross the creek using rocks and tree trunks about 15 times before you reach the end of this hike. In the summer, it’s perfect because it is shaded and near the water. In the Fall, the leaves are changing and the scenery is beautiful. In the spring, look for the wild flowers and in the winter the snow and ice along the creek create some spectacular formations. Cathedral Rock is one of my personal favorites because I tend to like hikes with a payoff at the end. Scaling up the side of Cathedral and reaching the saddle is extremely satisfying. The idea of the “best hike” here is definitely going to depend on who you talk to. There are over 70 trails to choose from and you almost can’t go wrong.
