Combine kennel training with keeping him on a schedule. You didn’t say how old your puppy was, but if he is very young he will need to go out once every couple of hours. Take him outside every time after he either wakes up or eats. Keep a very close eye on him and if he shows signs that he is going to potty in the house, take him out right away. If he is very young, he won’t be lifting his leg yet, they start that at about six months of age when the hormones begin. As he gets older, the trips outside can be spaced out a little longer. If you plan on taking him out on a leash every day, once he starts lifting his leg to pee it is going to take a bit longer for him to potty because when he marks, he doesn’t empty his bladder. He might need to mark 6 or 8 times before his bladder is empty. In general you can tell because towards the end, he will lift his leg and either nothing will come out, or only a drop or two.
