What is the best wood to use for exterior doors that are stained?

Our doors of preference for exterior stained finish are White Oak and Sapele Mahogany. Both species are of a grain structure that allows for the expansion & contraction common to doors used in climates where seasonal humidity changes are extreme. Red Oak can be used, but we suggest only when not open to weather exposure (When used under a covered opening or with a storm door the expansion of door components is reduced). Cedar is of course an excellent wood, but extremely soft. We cannot warranty species such as, Soft or Hard Maple, Cherry, or Walnut for exterior use.
