The University is required to make a copy of each PhD thesis available to the British Library for inter-library loan purposes. The British Library does not provide in response to a request for an inter-library loan a bound copy a thesis, but a microfilm copy of the text. For this reason, following successful examination, the University requires PhD candidates to deposit a library bound copy of their thesis and, in addition, an unbound set of pages. The unbound set of pages must be identical in every respect to the library-bound copy of the thesis, and should include copies of any ancillary data, published articles, etc. Many candidates now provide full-colour diagrams and photographs in their theses. The microfilming process will only replicate in black-and- white, so monochrome photocopies of colour pages is quite acceptable in the unbound copy of the text. Candidates should bear in mind that data provided in a medium other than the written word, such as on video, or CD-ROM, will not
