What is the Coalition’s basic position on stem cell policies?
We believe that any stem cell research and cures that are allowed by federal law should continue to be allowed in Missouri as long as those activities are conducted ethically and safely and do not involve human cloning or any attempt to clone a human being. This basic tenet formed the framework for the Missouri Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative passed by Missouri voters in November 2006. Like the overwhelming majority of medical experts, medical organizations and patient advocacy groups, we believe that all types of stem cell research should be pursued in the effort to find lifesaving cures, including research involving adult stem cells and early, or embryonic, stem cells (ES cells).
