What is the cure rate for seminoma?
Seminoma is a type of testicular cancer. There is a whole section on testicular cancer in CancerHelp UK which you may find helpful. Stage 1 and stage 2 seminomas are nearly always curable. In the early stages the cancer is either confined to the testicle or causing slight enlargement of the lymph nodes in the pelvis or abdomen. Cure is achieved by removing the affected testicle, and giving either radiotherapy to the lymph nodes in the abdomen, or chemotherapy. More than 95 out of every 100 (95%) men diagnosed with stage 1 seminoma live for more than five years after diagnosis. If the cancer has spread elsewhere in the body, or the affected lymph nodes in the pelvis and abdomen are very enlarged, chemotherapy will be given. Even with more advanced disease, more than two thirds of patients are now cured with this treatment.
