What is the definition of mentally healthy?

The study of Psychology is the study of the human soul/mind. It is an attempt to learn what is and isn’t normal. Along the way this science has found all the abnormalities. But in order make that kind of definition there must be a mentally normal base from which to compare. I am not aware of any official or written universal definition of mentally healthy. I think that it may be something that is innately known and part of the collective conscience. It becomes at this point more philosophical or religious than scientific. Human beings are the ones who study psychology and psychology is about the inner workings of the human soul, heart and/or mind — the “I think therefore I am” of DesCartes. Personally I think one is mentally healthy if they have a mostly balanced set of emotions: joys offsetting sorrows and vice versa.
