What is the difference between a 4-year degree and an Honours degree in Sociology?
The General Calendar lists the requirements for the two programs. In terms of your options after graduation, the Honours degree is the gateway to post-graduate studies. The focus of the Honours program is to provide students with strong theory and methods and an opportunity to write an Honours Research Paper in an area of their choice. The GPA needed for acceptance into, and graduation from, the Honours program is 3.0 in the Honours subject. With the Honours degree completed, the student is ordinarily able to acquire his/her Masters Degree with only one and a half further years of study. Identical to the 3-year BA requirements, the minimal GPA for graduation is at 2.0, but students have access to a broader, though not deeper, array of courses for their studies. Students may still go on to graduate studies from this program, but
