What is the difference between a CT scanner and an MRI machine?
A Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine uses exactly that – a magnet – to produce three dimensional images similar to the CT scanner. Its function is to assist in the diagnosis of soft tissue trauma, ligament and bone injuries, and disorders such as multiple sclerosis. Because it uses a high powered magnet, patients with metal implants, such as pacemakers, are not suitable candidates for the MRI.
