What is the difference between a platform and hardware?
A platform is a general category for a type of game system (e.g. “Windows” or “PlayStation 2”) Hardware are the list of separate machine configurations that can play games of a given platform (e.g. “PlayStation 2 Original”, “PlayStation 2 Slimline”, …) Some platforms may only contain a single hardware console, while others may have many varying by region-coding and features. Hardware also refers to accessories that are available to use with a system, such as controllers.
