A message marked as Private alerts the recipient to treat the message confidentially. Users cannot forward private messages by phone or from the Inbox. A message marked as Secure is stored only on the server, thereby disallowing secure messages from leaving JPL. Users cannot make local copies of secure messages. Replies to secure messages are also marked as secure.
