What is the difference between account codes and authorization codes?
Both are switch features dialed when placing calls. Account codes are used to “tag” calls for bill backs to the account; authorization codes are used to restrict an extension user’s telephone privileges – much like a password – and assign the call as originating from the user’s extension (regardless of its actual origin). Switches will validate a correct authorization code, but not an account code. The system supports these features and can charge accounts or extension owners for calls associated with account codes or authorization codes, respectively. However, because authorization codes are handled with added security, the system provides Account codes reports only. NOTE: Some companies like the switch “validation” feature offered to authorization codes and use them to “tag” accounts, instead. To support this particular application, the system allows swapping auth. code with account functionality on a switch-by-switch basis.
