What is the difference between God and Sir Chris Evans?
God is everywhere, while Sir Chris Evans, life sciences superstar, is everywhere apart from at Celsis’s board meetings. That’s a shame as he was the founder of Celsis and has been a director of the company since 1993. But no one can recall when he last attended an AGM, and he managed to attend only three of the eight board meetings in 2008. Sir Chris sold all his Celsis shares several years ago however. Sir Jack Rowell, non-executive chairman, 72 years young, took it all in good humour although he did find it at times difficult to remember which resolution we were voting on. There were also questions about why two non executive directors resigned on the same day in May 2009 and why the auditors receive more in non-audit fees than they do in audit fees. Disappointment was expressed about the lack of a dividend given the profitability and the financial strength of the company.
