What is the difference between HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol?
LDL refers to Low Density Lipoproteins while HDL refers to High Density Lipoproteins. When the LDL-cholesterol levels exceed a threshold level, it gets deposited onto the inner walls of blood vessels forming plaques; which may initiate a cascade of cholesterol associated disorders like Coronary Artery related Disease (CAD), cancer, vascular dementia, & Alzheimer’s etc. On the other side, HDL- Cholesterol removes the excess cholesterol plaques & thus, is not much perturbing for us!
