Either can be fine as long as you don’t join what we call a belt-mill/ McDojo, ….. Unfortunately to many martial arts schools have become little more than expensive day care facilities. They require you to sign a black belt contract. As a long term (over 42 years) I can say that any school that sells black belt contracts should be avoided at all cost. No reputable school will tell you that your son can be a black belt, or any other belt in X amount of time. Also any place that awards black belts to anyone under the age of 16 should be avoided.
