What is the difference between Magnetic and Electronic Ballasts in HID Lighting?
Electronic Ballasts mainly benefit the customer because they have less losses then Magnetic Ballasts (Auto Regulated and Auto Transformer). Magnetic ballasts have approximately 15% losses while the losses on Electronic Ballasts can be as little as 1%. Since electronic ballasts are expensive, they are not specified in standard fixtures and users will have to purchase these separately. In such cases, you will have to ask the Maintenance Staff at the facility whether they have ordered Electronic Ballasts.
