What is the difference between mechanical and physical properties?
Mechanical properties are defined as those material properties that measure a material’s reaction to applied force, like tensile strength, elongation, modulus of elasticity, fracture toughness, and fatigue strength. Physical properties are properties other than mechanical properties that depend on the physics of the material, including that density, thermal and electrical conductivity, and thermal expansion. In the industry, tensile properties are sometimes incorrectly referred to as “physical properties”.
