What is the difference between Raw Linseed Oil and Boiled Linseed Oil?
Raw Linseed Oil will never dry completely. When applied as a film, Raw Oil has molecular groups (sometimes called “tails”) that remain tacky forever. Boiled Linseed Oil originally was produced by using heat to eliminate these “tails”. Today Boiled Linseed Oil incorporates chemical dryers, which are added to promote drying (begin the polymerization process) in place of the heating process.
