Hulls: The American Concrete Institute (ACI) defines shotcrete as pneumatically applied mortar or concrete applied at high velocity. Sprayed concrete and shotcrete refer to the same material. The European trend is to refer to the product as sprayed concrete. The European Federation for Specialist Construction Chemicals and Concrete Systems (EFNARC) definition for sprayed concrete is a mixture of cement, aggregate, water and admixtures pneumatically applied from a nozzle into place to form a dense homogeneous mass. Gunite was first registered by Carl Ackerly in 1915 as his sprayed mortar mix and this term is still used sometimes.
