What is the difference between SVCD, DivX, MPEG, RealVideo, WindowsMedia and Quicktime?

All of them are different types of video formats, with SVCD and DivX being the highest in quality. MPEG video files are next in quality and are considered the standard format which should be playable with most video players (i.e. Windows Media Player). Most of the MPEG files are VCD compliant, which means that they fit the VCD specification and can be put onto CD for a standalone player. The lower quality video formats are RealVideo files, Windows Media files, and Quicktime files. RealVideo files can be played with RealPlayer (http://www.real.com), WindowsMedia (ASF and WMV files) with Windows Media Player, and Quicktime videos can be played using the Quicktime player (http://www.quicktime.com).
