What is the difference between the City Solicitor’s Office, the Solicitor General, the Fulton County Solicitor’s Office, and the District Attorney’s Office?
A10: The City Solicitor prosecutes non-traffic city ordinances and specific misdemeanor crimes such as possession of marijuana-less-than-an-ounce, misdemeanor shoplifting and underage persons in possession of alcohol that occur within the City of Atlanta only. If your charge is a result of a traffic violation within Fulton County, your case will be prosecuted by the Solicitor General’s Office. The Fulton County Solicitor has general jurisdiction over all misdemeanors committed in Fulton County. The District Attorney’s Office prosecutes felony cases that occur within Fulton County.
