What is the difference between the green tree boa constrictor and the green tree python?
The green tree python (Chondrophyton viridis or Morelia viridis) is native to New Guinea, Indonesia and neighbouring countries, whereas the green or emerald boa (Corallus caninus)is like all boas native to the New World and occurs in Amazonia. The green python is not that large for a constrictor (max 1,8 m, about 6 feet), and not all individuals are really green (some are partially yellow, reddish or brown, especially when young). Emerald boas may be longer (up to 2,2 m) and are green with white markings (juveniles also differ in coloration from adults). Even so, as tree-dwelling species both are more slender than other constrictors. The labial pits (heat receptors) of the emerald boa are larger and more visible than those of the green python. These species also differ by other characteristics common to other boas and pythons. Pythons lay eggs, whereas boas are ovoviviparous.
