What is the difference between the Student Temporary Employee Program (STEP) and the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP)?
Student Temporary Employee Program (STEP): An individual who has been accepted for enrollment, or who is enrolled, as a degree seeking student in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school may be appointed to a STEP position. The STEP program is temporary in nature and the students are not eligible for most benefits (ie, retirement, TSP, Life Insurance, Health Insurance until they complete 1 year). The nature of the duties do not have to be related to the students academic/career goals. Also, under the STEP program, students are not eligible for non-competitive conversion to a term, career, or career-conditional appointment.
