There are not equations to plot out the MacAdam ellipse data. Instead the data for each ellipse are tabulated in the original paper (D.L. MacAdam, Visual sensitivities to color differences in daylight, J. Opt. Soc. Am. 32, 247-274 (1942).). The steps refer to standard deviation of the color matches with 1 step meaning 1 standard deviation, etc. Please keep in mind that these data do not generalize for color discrimination of the population as a whole, but rather represent the experimental results for one observer in a particular viewing situation.
