What is the FSE?
The Florida Schools of Excellence Commission (FSE) is an independent state-level agency whose primary focus is to develop, sponsor and oversee high quality charter schools in the state. The FSE works in collaboration with the Department of Education and be under the direct supervision of the State Board of Education. Current information on the FSE is available on the FLDOE website at http://www.fldoe.org/fsecommission. The FSE was created by law in 2006 to provide alternative sponsorship of charter schools in Florida. In addition to sponsoring charter schools, the FSE can also authorize municipalities, state universities, community colleges and regional educational consortia to act as cosponsors of charter schools with the FSE. The FSE will collaborate with these cosponsors to create high quality programs for low-income, low-performing, gifted, or underserved student populations.
