What is the history of Buckeye Lake, Ohio?
Buckeye Lake was the first large reservoir built in America and became Ohio’s first State Park in May of 1949. Built near the highest point of elevation between the Scioto and Muskingum River watersheds, it was constructed to supply water for the canal system. Nearby Hebron, Ohio featured the now defunct Buckeye Lake Park, once one of the largest attractions in central Ohio.
