What is the history of Risco, Missouri?

0

Risco started out as a logging town in the late 1800’s. At the time, the entire area was covered by swamp. A line of the Frisco railroad ran through the center of town. A disabled Frisco boxcar sat on a siding in the town. The board with the letter “F” was knocked out, leaving the word “risco”. Railroad men began to call the stop “Risco”. The name has stuck ever since(this is a legend by the way). Risco is a typical southern “redneck” town. There are three banks, a combination bar and liquor store(which is awesome), a combination store, cafe and gas station and a grain elevator. Risco has a stand alone school district, Risco RII. The school system consists of an elementary school, a combination middle and high school and a gymnasium, all on the same plot of land. Most residents of Risco farm, work on farms, work in nearby larger towns or are on public assistance. Drinking, drinking, drinking and attending church(to repent) are the major forms of recreation.
