What is the impact of the FMLA policy on employees with registered same-sex domestic partners?
Registered same-sex domestic partners are not covered by federal law. However, the University administrative policy on FMLA extends the FMLA coverage to include same sex domestic partners. Therefore, a University employee could be entitled to leave to care for his/her partner, but this time would not count against FMLA entitlement as calculated under federal law.
