Javelin is the compiler Workshop uses inside all the framework products to compile JSPs, Java, JWS, JPD, JCS, etc. and it provides all the rich information to the IDE about auto-complete, auto-import, etc. The javelin compiler is made available separately as well so it can be run from the command line.
