What is the largest crowd ever for a wrestling event ?
The largest crowds in the history of professional wrestling was for back-to-back shows in North Korea held by New Japan Pro Wrestling. The shows were held at Pyongyang Stadium. The first show, on April 28, 1995 drew 150,000 fans for a show headlined by Scott Norton battling IWGP champion Shinya Hashimoto to a 20 minute draw. The second show, on April 29, 1995, drew 170,000 (although the worked figure was 190,000) for a show headlined by Antonio Inoki defeating Ric Flair. It should be mentioned that some have claimed that a show in Israel in the 1970’s, headlined by Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie vs. Andre The Giant, drew 200,000 people. However, there is no evidence to back up that claim.
