This is what I’ve learned over the years about the big ones. Naturalists generally agree that the largest snake is the Green Anaconda. That doesn’t mean it’s the longest. Some people think that the Reticulated and the Burmese Pythons are the longest snakes. But the Anaconda is a much more massive animal. This may be because it spends a lot of time in the water. The buoyancy of the water would help support it’s bulk. So what’s so hard about figuring out which is the longest snake? Well, measuring a snake isn’t easy. Firstly, few people are walking around in the jungle with a 40 foot measuring tape. Secondly, measuring a live snake of that size is very difficult.
