What is the Maximum Number of Nodes on a VG Segment?
There can be up to 1024 nodes on a single VG segment. However, Hewlet Packard recommends that the practical working limit is 250. Is this a good working limit? Mmmmm…probably. Could a VG network with more than 250 nodes on it work well? Sure. In short, it depends on your application. Remember, when used properly, VG guarantees a minimum network bandwidth to all nodes on the network and will fairly allocate bandwidth at all times. In other words, a good understanding of VG and the performance requirements of your network will allow you to put together a VG network that will really work well. (Gee, this is true for any networking technology! _smile_ ).
