What is the name of the point at which the prime meridian crosses the equator?
The prime meridian divides the earth into eastern and western hemispheres. The equator divides the earth into northern and southern hemispheres. Where they cross, the latitude and longitude are both zero degrees. The time at zero degrees on the prime meridian is called GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) or UT (Universal Time). The only names I’ve heard associated with the prime meridian are those associated with time that I mentioned above. Good luck!
Where is zero degrees latitude and zero degrees longitude? The point at which the equator (0° latitude) and the Prime Meridian (0° longitude) intersect has no real significane but it is in the Atlantic Ocean, about 380 miles (611 kilometers) south of Ghana and 670 miles (1078 km) west of Gabon. EASTERN and WESTERN (divided at Prime Meridian through Greenwich Observatory, London, UK) All countries located east of the Prime Meridian (0° longitude) are in the Eastern Hemisphere, while countries west of the Prime Meridian (0° longitude) are in the Western Hemisphere. The Prime Meridian directly intersects eight (8) countries, (shown on map) and those countries are therefore in both the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. They Include: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Ghana, France, Mali, Spain, Togo and the United Kingdom (UK) NORTHERN and SOUTHERN (divided at the equator) There are twelve (12) countries located directly (on the Equator) and they are therefore in both the Northern and Southern Hemisphe
