What is the NIM?
The National Intelligence Model is an intelligence led policing model, initially devised by NCIS and subsequently adopted by ACPO and ACPOS as the policing model for use throughout the police service in the United Kingdom, including Special Branch, NCS and the SCDEA. The NIM analyses information and intelligence to identify priorities and, thereafter, tasks and coordinates resources to maximise the likelihood of achieving successful results in those areas. The NIM is not necessarily about change or new methods but draws heavily on many areas of existing good practice and what has always been done to create an ideal system designed to ensure effective policing of identified priority areas at all levels.
