What is the pastoral council?
Pastoral councils are made up of elected and/or appointed representatives from the parish community. It is their role to develop and implement a pastoral plan which meets the needs of the parish. The pastoral council is chaired by a lay person and the priest is president of the group. The Pastoral Council is an advisory body to the priest, howerver, under normal circumstances the decisions made are with the consensus of the group. The purpose of the Council is to enable the involvement of parishioners in the care of their own parish, by fostering the sacramental, liturgical and social life of the parish.
