During internal tests on VMware ESX 4.1, we compared the results of an SD benchmark running in a single virtual machine configured with 8 virtual CPUs with the results of the virtual machine configured with 4 virtual CPUs. The virtual machine configured with 8 virtual CPUs needed 200% of the resources and reached 175% of the performance of the machine configured with 4 CPUs.
