What is the Points Based System (PBS)?

0

The Points Based System (PBS) is a new system for managing migration for those wishing to enter the UK for work or study. PBS was launched in the UK on 29 February 2008. The system will be gradually phased in throughout 2008 and 2009. The Tier 1 (General) route is the replacement for the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme. It is aimed at attracting applicants who have the very highest skills or who wish to establish themselves in business or to invest in the UK. Their dependants living overseas will be able to apply for entry clearance at UK diplomatic missions designated as visa issuing posts or through Visa Application Centres in the same way they would do for other types of application. The full background to the PBS is available at www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk.
