If the student has not been served previously in special education, he/she should be referred to the Child Study Committee (CSC) in his/her home school. If the CSC requests a formal evaluation, parent permission must be obtained prior to any type of assessment. Once the evaluation is completed, the case will come before an eligibility committee to determine if the student is eligible for special education services. If the student is found eligible, an IEP (Individualized Education Program) will be written for special education services. Services may begin once the parent has signed an agreement for the IEP. If the student transfers into the school division with a current IEP, the parent should inform the school that the student was receiving special education services and provide the school with a copy of the student’s IEP and any prior completed evaluations.
