What is the proper way to ask questions on IRC?
Many people wonder why questions asked on the Inkscape IRC channel generally do not receive an answer. There are several reasons for this. First, maybe IRC is the wrong place to be asking the question; see the previous FAQ item. Second, you may have asked the question wrong. A common error people make on IRC is to say something like, “Can someone answer a question?” without actually indicating what the question is. Most people won’t respond to this, because they have no idea what they’ll be asked, and they may not know. (For instance, your question may have to do with Windows, whereas they only know Linux.) Instead, just ask the question. If someone has relevant advice, they’ll see your question and give it. Third, you may not have waited long enough for an answer.
