What is the psychodynamic (psychoanalytic) theory?

Look up John Bowlby, he came from the psychodynamic perspective but was really the first to come up with a theory of attachment. The work of Mary Ainsworth is also good. Freud didn’t really develop a theory of attachment as such, however his daughter, Anna Freud, did some studies on the effect of separation during the Second World War.
