Girl Scouts is more than being in a troop; a troop is just one way for girls to participate. The $12 membership registration fee allows the girls to become a member which is a requirement for troop placement. The first step for all girls is to become a Girl Scout member. As soon as a girl registers, she is a Girl Scout. Every Girl Scout is offered a variety of pathways to immediately become involved in the Girl Scout experience. These opportunities include council programs, local events, troops, horse club, robotics, camp, travel and other activities. If a girl would like to participate in the troop pathway, all efforts are made to place her as quickly as possible. All troops are led by volunteers. Unfortunately, many communities do not have enough adults volunteering to be troop leaders. When a troop leader isn’t available, the girl is placed on a waiting list until a spot in a troop becomes available or an adult agrees to lead a troop.
