What is the reason for using exotic leathers?
Some exotics serve a functional purpose as well as aesthetic. For example, Sharkskin and shell horsehide are extremely durable leathers. Sharkskin is next to impossible to wear out, even when it is being used in a highly abrasive environment such as hunting in thorn bushes or being scratched along the pavement, as in the case of a police officer trying to manhandle an unruly drunk. Other exotics such as snakeskins are rather delicate and best used for decorative purposes such as dress belt and holsters that will not see rough service.
