What is the relation of the DoD Information Assurance Scholarship Program to the National Science Foundation Federal Cyber-Service Scholarship Program?
The NSF Cyber-Service Scholarship Program provides scholarships to students who are obligated to serve as civilian employees in a variety of federal departments and agencies upon completing their course of study. The DoD Information Assurance Scholarship Program, while similar in some respects to the NSF Federal Cyber-Service Scholarship Program, is a separate program authorized by section 922 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2001, Public Law 106-398, and codified at chapter 112, title 10, United States Code. Its purpose is to recruit and retain information security professionals specifically for employment in the Department of Defense. The DoD Information Assurance Scholarship Program is sponsored by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration (ASD (NII)) who has delegated responsibility for executing the program to the National Security Agency (NSA).
