A sheet cake is a one layer cake, usually square but can be custom designed. A Wedding cake can be a sheet cake, but traditional wedding cakes are usually round with two or three tiers (layers) with the top piece being a small cake with a souvenir ornament on top. The smaller cake is usually kept by the couple for their 1st anniversary. The layers of the wedding cake(tiers) are supported by ornate columns. Wedding cakes are a custom affair. they are made to your specification, They can be one or two layers, but I have seen 4 layers, it’s all about what you want.

Each tier of a wedding cake is composed of four layers of cake and three layers of filling. Wedding cake servings are 1″x2″ rectangles, approximately 5 1/2 – 6 inches tall. Sheet cakes are composed of two layers of cake and one layer of filling. Sheet cake servings are 2″x2″ squares, 3″ tall.
