The Texas Success Initiative or TSI, formerly known as TASP is a body of State regulations designed to ensure that students have the academic skills to be successful in Texas colleges and that they receive appropriate remediation if needed. Toward this goal, the State has authorized several comprehensive assessment instruments that may be used to measure college-ready skills in students. The Dallas County Community Colleges primarily utilize the Accuplacer Assessment to determine a student’s current proficiency in reading comprehension, English writing composition and mathematics. In accordance with the State TSI standards, students who indicate a need for enhancement of these skills are provided credit academic support courses, known as developmental studies, to help them prepare for their college studies.
