What is the URL syntax for creating direct links to WorldCat results for an item, and what can I do with it?
Anyone can create a WorldCat link for a published work—or to key word search results—using the freely distributed URL syntax (link structure) available at WorldCat.org. A WorldCat.org link for a specific item is constructed around one of several international standard numbers for an item: ISBN, ISSN or OCLC Number. Links to WorldCat.org search results can also be created by embedding search terms in the URL. The syntax is designed to allow Web developers to find new ways to integrate the lookup of library resources with other Web-enabled functionality. This helps extend the Web reach of WorldCat libraries even further. Some WorldCat libraries have used the syntax to dynamically generate a “Check nearby libraries” link within their OPAC.
