What is United Way of Canada/Centraide Canada and how does it relate to local United Ways/Centraides?
Originally established in 1939, the national office became known as United Way of Canada/Centraide Canada in 1974. United Ways/Centraides are members of United Way of Canada/Centraide Canada. Each member pays membership dues to United Way of Canada/Centraide Canada which allows them the right and privilege to use, within their assigned geographic area, the United Way and Centraide name and logo, and to access programs and services provided by United Way of Canada/Centraide Canada. The role of United Way of Canada/Centraide Canada has evolved over time. United Way of Canada/Centraide Canada operates on two levels. The first includes activities that involve the Movement (referring to all United Ways/Centraides working collectively) as a whole supporting efforts in achieving the overall goal of achieving community impact through community building. The second is as an operating entity in its own right.
