What is video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery or VATS?
This minimally invasive procedure is very effective in lung cancer treatment, enabling thoracic surgeons to see what’s going on inside the chest using a tiny camera. Benefits include safety, a short hospital stay, less pain and accuracy in diagnosing and staging of lung cancers. VATS is also useful in removing portions of a diseased lung (lobectomy) and cancerous and benign tumors, and for patients who have fluid around the lung and heart.
