What is zoysia grass and is it water-conserving?
Zoysia grass is a low-growing grass that spreads by stollons to make a dense, lawn carpet that does conserve water. It is slow to establish and slow growing so you won’t have to mow as much as other grasses, but it turns brown in winter. If you decide to plant zoysia, you must order it locally and have it shipped in. It is not a common grass to plant. If you are considering this grass, may I recommend one of the new hybrid Bermuda grasses? There have been some dramatic improvements in these grasses.
